Hey there Teaching Adult-

You made a wonderful choice for your child's education.  Welcome to WAVA. Taking classes over the computer, with the computer being a main resource of learning, is the fastest growing educational environment today.

WAVA students are getting an early foot in the door regarding technology and the unlimited possiblities that can be presented to students in this Virtual Environment.  Many employers are asking about Technological Experience and Online Education Experiences.  WAVA students will have this experience!

Our children are growing up in a different world today.  I remember when the VCR was an exciting buy!  Many of you remember when the TV was the HOT item!  I was in the MTV era- now that changed society forever!

Technology is fast to change and vastly changing.  The World Wide Web is still a baby with less than 20 years under its belt.  Yet look at its evolution!  There are millions of web sites, blogs, etc.  We are getting into Podcast, vidoes, imaging, and much more.  We, as the consumer, cannot keep up with the ever changing technology.  A computer is outdated before we really learn how to use it!  So what is the answer?  Get into as much technology as you can.  Learn what is out there and involve you kids in what you find.  Your children will be amazed that they can see Paris in a 360 degree view on their home computer!

Now we also have education over the web/online that goes hand in hand with computer use at home.  WAVA is part of this technological streamline of moving with the needs of the student and the changes that technology offers.  You are a part of the WAVA GROOVE.

I am confident you will enjoy the learning experience with WAVA and with your child.

Tips and Advice from WAVA Parents:

What kind of advice would you give another parent for using the WAVA
curriculum?

~Be prepared to change you system/strategy of teaching and vary the amount of courses numerous times(even weekly) to suit your childs learning needs/style and accomodate your families changing schedule/needs.

~My advice to a parent about the curriculum is what I told you on the phone.
Don't give up in the fall if it seems hard. You will hit your stride and figure out how each of your children work with the curriculum best. Some kids need more practice than others and some will need the challenge of the optional lessons. Give it time. It won't take 7 hours a day forever. Ha.

~The only advice I can give is be organized from the beginning because it's hard to get them back on track! Wava is the best program I have seen for the layout of the program. I love it. I just wish Codie loved it as much as I do.

~IT GETS EASIER THE MORE YOU GET INTO IT. PREPARE AHEAD OF TIME FOR SCIENCE.

What kind of advice would you give a new WAVA family?

~I am just getting a feel for how to help my daughter after several
months of the program. For us, having the younger kids occupied out of
the home for a few hours every day will gives us the chance to focus
just on her learning.

~To a new WAVA family I would say, this is a curriculum you can be confident of. Your children will be just as challenged as other students in the public school system. You get so much help as a parent with the guides and a teacher to talk to about things. You will feel supported as a parent, without feeling pushed in any way. It is still your child and you together.

~I found with Josiah that making and setting goals to reach a certain milestone in his schoolwork as far as the percentage of work that we had to reach then giving him a reward for his hard work could be a great motivator. He actually had something to work for and it worked really well and allowed for us to spend more time together doing other things. At the beginning it was a little rough as I really did not know what I was doing but Josia is capable when he puts in the effort and is motivated to do so.

~BE FLEXABLE ....BUT DO STICK TO A ROUTINE BECAUSE IT IS EASY TO GET BUSY DOING OTHER THINGS AND SAY WE WILL GET TO IT LATER AND BEFORE YOU KNOW ITS BED TIME.

Hey there WAVA kids-

Did you know that there are almost 1500 kids in WAVA now!  That is a whole bunch of kids working at home just like you!  That is a whole lot of kids that live right here in Washington State.  WAVA has kids all over the state of Washington- from Long Beach, Washington to Spokane, Washington!  You are a part of this wave and groove of the future through WAVA.

"The Funky Chicken"  is the Rave,
We Dance it Everyday!
Yes, it may seems strange, but the WAVA Groove is being compared to The Funky Chicken Dance. Many people around the state of Washington claim that they dance and groove everyday! It is an amazing talent where WAVA students and parents groove and move each day in the WAVA routine way! I have to say that I am impressed with the smooth moves of the WAVA Groove.
Turn on the Learning and DANCE!

Connection Letter Questions for April:
Mrs. Holmberg:
I love Disneyland! I wish I could have gone with you! My question is what was your favorite part of your Disneyland visit? My mom says you had fun.
Thank you,
Miranda

HI Miranda,
I loved Disneyland too!  Is was a Blast!  My favorite ride was California Screamin'!  That is an awesome roller coaster ride.  I got to ride it twice!  I had to ride it with my husband the second time because he was scared  :)

Mrs. Holmberg,
My question for you is:
What do you think about teaching online instead of in a classroom? Is it very different?
Zach

Hey Zach,
I really like working online.  It is a lot different then being in the classroom though.  I do not have a lot of interaction with my students anymore, and I do miss that sometimes.  I get excited to talk to each of my students every month and see what you have been up to.  I love working on the computer most of all with the advantage of being home with my own kids.

Dear Mrs. Holmberg
I was wondering what your middle name is?
from Colby

Howdy Colby,
My middle name, Alta, has been passed down for many generations.  This word means "tall" in Spanish, but I am not sure what the origin of the name is from the times it was first used in my family.  It is a very different name though, isn't it?

Mrs. Holmberg,
Do you have a puppy?  And if you do what is its name?

Hey Nathaniel,
I do have 2 dogs!  One is a poodle, he is named Skipper, and I have a Cockapoo, her name is Twinkie.  They are both white.  They love to give kisses, but I don't like doggy kisses!  LOL
