Tips and Advice from WAVA Parents:
What kind of advice would you give another parent for using the WAVA
curriculum?
~Be prepared to change you system/strategy of teaching and vary the amount of courses numerous times(even weekly) to suit your childs learning needs/style and accomodate your families changing schedule/needs.
~My advice to a parent about the curriculum is what I told you on the phone.
Don't give up in the fall if it seems hard. You will hit your stride and figure out how each of your children work with the curriculum best. Some kids need more practice than others and some will need the challenge of the optional lessons. Give it time. It won't take 7 hours a day forever. Ha.
~The only advice I can give is be organized from the beginning because it's hard to get them back on track! Wava is the best program I have seen for the layout of the program. I love it. I just wish Codie loved it as much as I do.
~IT GETS EASIER THE MORE YOU GET INTO IT. PREPARE AHEAD OF TIME FOR SCIENCE.
What kind of advice would you give a new WAVA family?
~I am just getting a feel for how to help my daughter after several
months of the program. For us, having the younger kids occupied out of
the home for a few hours every day will gives us the chance to focus
just on her learning.
~To a new WAVA family I would say, this is a curriculum you can be confident of. Your children will be just as challenged as other students in the public school system. You get so much help as a parent with the guides and a teacher to talk to about things. You will feel supported as a parent, without feeling pushed in any way. It is still your child and you together.
~I found with Josiah that making and setting goals to reach a certain milestone in his schoolwork as far as the percentage of work that we had to reach then giving him a reward for his hard work could be a great motivator. He actually had something to work for and it worked really well and allowed for us to spend more time together doing other things. At the beginning it was a little rough as I really did not know what I was doing but Josia is capable when he puts in the effort and is motivated to do so.
~BE FLEXABLE ....BUT DO STICK TO A ROUTINE BECAUSE IT IS EASY TO GET BUSY DOING OTHER THINGS AND SAY WE WILL GET TO IT LATER AND BEFORE YOU KNOW ITS BED TIME.
