Holmberg News Re-enrollment for WAVA 2007-2008 is Happening NOW! Check your OLS and fill out the paperwork that is necessary to move onto the next year with us. It is easy and simple to do, but do it early in case you have to get papers from your local school before they close for the summer.
For students not returning – the OLS will shut off on July 6th.
For students returning – the OLS will be available all summer except for a few days the beginning of August when K12 switches over to the 2007-2008 school year. If the student is ready to promote in courses, the new courses will appear. If they are still working on an old course, it will show just where they left off.
For students re-enrolling in the fall who have met the 80% mark, the new courses will show on the OLS in mid-August and that you can continue to work during the summer to reach the 100% mark in their current courses if you want to.
For students re-enrolling in the fall who have NOT met the 80% mark, they will be receiving an “I” for incomplete in those courses. They can continue to work during the summer and when they do complete the 80%, the score for that course will be adjusted.
For students who enrolled mid-year and had a June goal less than 80%, consider their June goal and whether or not they are satisfactory for the amount of work expected during this school year and explain that they can work into the summer and will continue next fall in the same courses until they are ready to promote (mid-year we will require a minimum of 90% as always). Enrolling mid-year means you will not fall into the traditional school calendar of starting the new school year with all new courses and that is OK. If you finish in October, we’ll promote in October. If it takes you until January, we will promote in January. The learning is what is important, not the label on the book.
*Also – students will officially move up a grade level regardless of the curriculum. For instance, a current 4th grader will be considered a 5th grader in the fall even if they are still finishing up the 4th grade curriculum. Is there a K12 high School coming to Washington? We don't have anything in concrete yet, but I know there are many districts that are interested in aquiring the Virtual High School. Keep your ears open, we will be hearing something soon. If your child is an 8th grader- wait to fill out the enrollment information until we know for sure about the possibility of a Virtual High School in Washington or not. Last day of School: June 15, 2007. Teachers will be available again in September 2007. The OLS will be available during the summer if you enroll for next school year 2007-2008. K12 will send return shipping labels for materials that need to be returned. If you are not done with a course, that is ok, you can keep what you need.

| WAVA Monthly Progress Stats Information Please continue to keep an eye on the Progress charts– these are the percentage o f lessons that need to be completed in order to meet the goals of completion by June 15th These progress goals are based on approximate student start dates. These goals are also the minimum percentage of work to be completed each month to meet Satisfactory Work Status for the Month-End Progress Reports sent to Administration. Please feel free to do a little more than expected each month in order to gain further progress in the curriculum and studies. * The percentages given here are the minimum required for each month. STUDENT ATTENDANCE Please continue to record the time that you are putting into your studies, as well as any additional work you do aside from the WAVA curriculum. The time you work and learn is very important to record for Washington State calculations. Show the State how hard working our WAVA students are– I know that you put in more time than is required. *Attendance can only be recorded on the Parents log-in with WAVA.
MONTH END ROUTINE As you know, as the end of the month nears, I will be writing reports on student progress with the Student Learning Plans, SLP. Please check your attendance screen to make sure all of your attendance is up to date. Also, please review the student progress screen. If any light colors show up on the progress screen, this means you have not entered assessment answer results, marked lessons as complete, or assessments have not been mastered at 80% or above.

Dear Families,
It has been a great year at WAVA! So much has been accomplished and we thank you for your dedication this year. As with any other public school, there is a beginning and an end, and as you know our last day of school is June 15, 2007. However, teachers will be pulling off all attendance/progress on June 11th. If your student has met the goal of 100% at this time, it is still not time to close shop! We suggest filling your attendance requirements by visiting museums, going on educational outings, touring websites, and of course working with the K12 curriculum in a deeper way by visiting the optional lessons, revisiting favorite art and science lessons etc. Don’t quit now! It is too early to stop the journey of learning and letting the lazy, hazy summer days fill your household. Keep the momentum until June 11th, and put those attendance hours in for those extra curricular opportunities! Oh, and if your student is at 80% now, the expectation of WAVA is that students continue in their studies up to June 11th.
Run the race!
